Mubkhar Al Shahania dominates Ras Mlaiji Cup with authority

DECEMBER 27, 2025

Mubkhar Al Shahania (Gazwan x Kampanule De Ghazal) delivered a commanding front-running performance to land Race 8, the day’s feature Ras Mlaiji Cup, a Local Purebred Arabian Handicap (65–85) for 3YO+ over 2000m, Class 4, contested by five runners. The 4-year-old grey colt, carrying the colours of H.E. Sheikha Yasmeen bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Thani, under the care of Rudy Nerbonne and guided by Lukas Delozier, made it two wins in succession and the third of his career from just five starts, scoring by two and a quarter lengths. Breaking alertly, Mubkhar Al Shahania moved to the front shortly after the start, taking over from Chakib (Kalino). Once in control, he dictated terms with confidence, setting a steady yet decisive tempo and travelling comfortably at the head of affairs. Al Mutaghatris (No Risk Al Maury) tracked him throughout with the remainder of the field racing in close order behind. Approaching the home turn, Al Mutaghatris began to close and briefly reduced the margin, posing the first serious question to the leader. Mubkhar Al Shahania; however, had more to give. Turning into the home straight, he lengthened again, quickening decisively to reassert his authority and kick clear, putting the outcome beyond doubt well before the line. AJS Najma (AF AlBahar), racing for Al Jeryan Stud, prepared by M.H.K Al Attiyah and partnered by Szczepan Mazur, recovered from being relegated to last during the early stages and produced a strong late surge to secure second. Al Mutaghatris, representing Khalifa bin Sheail Al Kuwari, from the Julian Smart yard and guided by Damien Morin, stayed on gamely for third, a length behind the runner-up.
