Mou’nes Al Shahania (Harran ASF x Majnona) delivered a powerful late charge to claim the Local Purebred Arabian Handicap (0–65) for 3YO+ over 2200m, Class 6, prevailing by a length in a field of 12 runners. The 4-year-old black gelding, carrying the colours of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, under the care of Rudy Nerbonne and guided home by Lukas Delozier, broke his maiden at the fourth attempt and completed a quick-fire double for his owner and his trainer while maintaining an unblemished record of finishing in the first four in all of his starts. Held up near the rear from the outset, Mou’nes Al Shahania was settled in tenth position as Al Masdar (No Risk Al Maury) set a strong pace and dictated proceedings for much of the race. Rabee’ Al Shahania (Asraa Min Albarq) tracked the leader closely, with Hardan (Assy), Bin La Hoor (La Hoor) and Aaneef Zakhir (Djendel) next in line. The order remaining largely unchanged through the middle stages. The complexion of the race shifted dramatically approaching the home straight. While Al Masdar continued to lead deep into the final stages, Mou’nes Al Shahania began to make rapid headway, slicing through the field with a sustained run. In a matter of strides, he passed rivals one by one, moving into third with 150m remaining. Still gathering momentum, he surged past the leaders to strike the front close home and draw clear for a decisive success.Hardan, racing for Ms Maryam Abdulrahman Al-Jaber, trained by Hadi Al Ramzani and ridden by Soufiane Saadi, stayed on for second while Aaneef Zakhir, representing and prepared by Osama Omer Al-Dafea and partnered by Mohammed Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik, finished a further one and three-quarter lengths back in third.
