Abdulrahman bin Mansour Al Mansour, QREC Board Member, presented the H.E. Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Trophy for Purebred Arabians, following Race 7, with Dean Lavy, Director of Al Shahania Stud, receiving the prize on behalf of the winning owner, Al Shahania Stud Mac’zoom Al Shahania (Mared Al Sahra x Vega De Faust) was rewarded for his consistency with a hard-fought success in the H.E. Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Trophy for Purebred Arabians over 1750m. The five-year-old bay gelding, having filled the placings on three occasions earlier in the season, broke through at the fourth attempt, travelling smoothly from barrier two and settling second throughout before being driven out inside the final 200m to prevail by a quarter of a length. Prepared by Rudy Nerbonne and partnered by Lukas Delozier, the victory marked his third career win and his first success in Qatar from eight starts. Shabbab (Manark), carrying the colours of Al Shaqab Racing, made the running for the majority of the contest, setting a steady tempo through the early and middle stages. Under Faleh Bughenaim, he continued to show the way turning for home but came under pressure inside the final 200m, where both the eventual winner and runner-up closed sharply to overhaul him, leaving him to battle on gamely for third. Intisar De Monlau (Al Mamun Monlau), racing in the silks of Wathnan Racing, was settled towards the rear in the early stages before improving gradually into midfield. Ridden patiently by James Doyle, she produced a strong late run in the home straight, closing rapidly in the final 200m to press the winner and secure second, finishing 1¼ lengths ahead of the third-placed runner in a tightly contested finish for the minor honours.
