Caid Du Soleil edges a stirring finish to lift the Al Judhay Cup

January 28, 2026

Caid Du Soleil (Al Mourtajez x Theeba) returned to his best to land the eighth and final race, the Al Judhay Cup, a Purebred Arabian Premium Maiden Plate for 4–7yos over 2200m, Class 6, contested by 12 runners. The five-year-old grey, racing for Al Shahania Stud and trained by Rudy Nerbonne, put a series of recent efforts behind him to get off the mark at the seventh attempt and on his third start in Qatar, prevailing by a neck under Lukas Delozier, who completed a quick-fire double and a treble on the day. Settling into a comfortable rhythm early, Caid Du Soleil raced in fifth through the early and middle stages, tracking a leading group headed by Al Natibis Up (Al Mamun Monlau), who set the tempo ahead of Munahis (AF AlBahar), Bin Narain (Al Mourtajez) and Der’h Al Shahania (Gazwan). The order remained largely unchanged as the field made its way toward the home turn, with Al Natibis Up appearing firmly in control. Once straightened, the complexion of the race shifted. Munahis began to apply strong pressure to the leader, ranging up with intent while Caid Du Soleil was produced with a perfectly timed challenge, unleashing a telling late surge from just off the pace. In the final stages, he swept to the front as Munahis continued to battle relentlessly alongside, refusing to yield. The pair fought out a gripping finish, with Caid Du Soleil showing resolve to hold on gamely and secure a narrow victory. Munahis, owned by Sheikh Ahmad bin Mohamed bin Faleh Al Thani and trained by Hadi Al Ramzani, finished a close second under Jefferson Smith, beaten only a neck but a length and a half clear of the remainder. Lattam (No Risk Al Maury), representing Abdulrahman Fahad Al-Attiyah and trained by Hamad Al-Jehani, produced the fastest closing sectional under Pierre Charles Boudot to take third, completing the frame in a strongly run renewal of the Al Judhay Cup.

DECEMBER 11, 2025

Aneed Al Shahania (Azadi x Al Anga) reaffirmed his rising-star credentials with a commanding display in the Local Purebred Arabian Conditions for 4YO+ over 2200m (Class 2), contested by four runners. The 5YO grey horse, racing for H.E. Sheikha Reem bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Thani, trained by Rudy Nerbonne and partnered by Lukas Delozier, secured his second straight win and the sixth of his exceptional seven-race career, stretching clear by 4 lengths. Remarkably, the only time he was beaten, he finished runner-up by just a head. Talg'at Al Shahania (Mared Al Sahra), representing the same owner-trainer combination as the winner under Damien Morin, dictated a steady tempo throughout the early and middle stages, with the runners travelling in single file: Aneed Al Shahania tracking closely, followed by Habes (Harran ASF) and Galeb Al Shahania (Burning Sand), the latter racing for Al Eida Racing and trainer Gassim Al Ghazali under Marco Casamento. The order remained unchanged until the approach to the home turn where Talg'at Al Shahania attempted to lift the pace. All four runners straightened for the run-in together, but as soon as Delozier asked the question, Aneed Al Shahania delivered a decisive and electrifying response. He surged to the front with authority, opening a widening gap that left no room for doubt. Galeb Al Shahania stayed on best of the remainder for second, finishing 3½ lengths ahead of Talg'at Al Shahania in third, but the race was all about Aneed Al Shahania, who once again underlined his status as one of the most exciting local Purebred Arabians in training.

Mubkhar Al Shahania battles bravely to secure his second career win

DECEMBER 06, 2025

Mubkhar Al Shahania (Gazwan x Kampanule De Ghazal) showed determination and maturity beyond his experience to land Race 3, the Local Purebred Arabian Handicap (55–75) for 3YO+ over 2200m (Class 5), run with 13 runners. The 4YO grey colt, racing for H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, trained by Rudy Nerbonne and partnered by Lukas Delozier, doubled his career tally on just his fourth start, scoring by a narrow quarter of a length. The early stages were lively and constantly shifting. Kasser Al Shahania (Amer) made the running from the outset, with Mubkhar Al Shahania tracking him closely in the same colours, followed by Achmed (Tabarak) and Muale'm (Mared Al Sahra). Muale’m soon moved forward to take command, with the two stablemates in the white and blue colours in pursuit. As the race evolved rapidly, Rabee' Al Shahania (Asraa Min Albarq) advanced to challenge the leader while Achmed held third. Moments later, Azooz (Aziz ASF) swept into second behind the still-leading Muale’m as the field passed the 1000m. Approaching the home turn, the complexion changed yet again, with Rabee' Al Shahania taking over at the 700m, narrowly ahead of Azooz. The lead changed hands repeatedly through the early home straight. Kasser Al Shahania re-emerged at the front, only for Mubkhar Al Shahania to loom alongside, repeating their early-race duel. Just as Mubkhar Al Shahania moved ahead, Achmed surged with a powerful challenge and looked a genuine danger in the final stages. However, Mubkhar Al Shahania dug deep and held on gamely for a narrow, but deserved victory. Achmed, representing Wathnan Racing for trainer Alban de Mieulle under Soufiane Saadi, finished just a quarter of a length behind. Only a nose back came Al Fareq (Al Mamun Monlau), running for Khalifa bin Sheail Al Kuwari under Julian Smart and Marco Casamento, delivering a strong late run from the rear to claim third after a very tight battle for the minor honours.
