H.E. Sheikha Reem’s Talg’at Al Shahania storms home to take Al Jumail Cup

H.E. Sheikha Reem’s Talg'at Al Shahania storms home to take Al Jumail Cup

APRIL 17, 2025

Al Uqda Racecourse hosted an exciting five-race card on turf on Thursday, 17 April, headlined by the Al Jumail Cup for Local Purebred Arabian fillies and mares. The afternoon offered a mix of competitive contests featuring both Arabians and thoroughbreds, with thrilling finishes throughout. The day opened with a Purebred Arabian handicap and built up to a dramatic climax in the feature, with narrow margins and blanket-finishes keeping racegoers on the edge of their seats.

Talg’at Al Shahania (Mared Al Sahra x Kampanule De Ghazal) delivered a dazzling late charge to claim the feature race of the day, the Al Jumail Cup, a Class 4 Local Purebred Arabian Graduation Plate for fillies and mares aged 4YO+ over 1400m. The 6YO mare, owned by H.E. Sheikha Reem bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Thani, powered home under Lukas Delozier to win by three quarters of a length, handing trainer Rudy Nerbonne a memorable success.

The ten-runner field saw a brisk pace early, with Kanz Al Adeed (AF AlBahar), Marnan (Majd Al Arab), Messera Al Shahania (Burning Sand) and RM Wadha (Mared Al Sahra) all vying for the lead. Kab Ghazal (No Risk Al Maury), owned by Sharq Stud, trained by Mohd Ahmed Mohd Hasan Al-Sulaiti, and ridden by Arnaud De Lepine, and Aziza (Amer), owned by Khalifa bin Sheail Al Kuwari, trained by Zuhair Mohsen, and ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, joined the challenge approaching the home turn. Meanwhile, Delozier kept Talg’at Al Shahania patiently at the rear. Once in the straight, the leaders fought tooth and nail, but the race turned on its head when Talg’at Al Shahania unleashed a phenomenal burst of speed. Picking off her rivals one by one, she stormed past the field to snatch a thrilling victory. Aziza held on well for second, with Kab Ghazal staying on for third, a length and a half further behind.

Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners.

In the penultimate and feature race of the day, Ray'q (Azadi x Zahwah) returned to the winner’s enclosure with a thrilling victory in the HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy for 4YO+ Local Purebred Arabians over 2100m. The 6YO horse, owned by H.E. Sheikha Reem bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Thani and trained by Rudy Nerbonne, secured his sixth win in just 10 starts after a fierce battle in the home straight. Jockey Olivier d'Andigne delivered a determined ride as Ray’q fought stride for stride with stablemate Aneed Al Shahania before edging ahead by a head at the line, completing a double for the rider. Galeb Al Shahania (Burning Sand) dictated the pace for most of the race, but Ray'q and Aneed Al Shahania stormed past in the home straight, pulling well clear of the rest of the field. Makarem Al Shahania breaks maiden in strong fashion

Makarem Al Shahania breaks maiden in strong fashion

February 27 , 2025

In Race 2, the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate for 4-6YOs over 1400m, Makarem Al Shahania (Munjiz x Unwa) built on her runner-up finish last time to secure a well-earned maiden victory on her fifth career start. Owned and bred by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, the 5YO mare was saddled by Rudy Nerbonne and guided to victory by Lukas Delozier, scoring by two and a quarter lengths. Agshar (Al Mourtajez) initially took the lead before Taimoor (Nizam) assumed command and maintained his position through the early and middle stages while the eventual winner travelled in mid-division. As the field entered the home straight, Agshar closed in on the leader, but it was Makarem Al Shahania who produced a sharp turn of foot, surging past them both to win decisively. Husam Al Shahania (Munjiz) finished second, while Mared Al Zaeem (Mared Al Sahra) took third, half a length behind the runner-up, just half a length ahead of Taimoor and Maraweeh Al Sahaab (AF AlBahar), who were separated by narrow margins, a neck and a further neck, in a tight battle for minor honors.
